In a petition released on the 7th, 2518 members of the film industry (actors, students, and the members of 77 organizations) called for the impeachment and imprisonment of South Korea’s President Yoon Suk-yeol for treason.
Kang Dong-won, Kim Go-eun, Son Ye-jin, and Jun Ji-hyun were among those who had signed the petition.
The statement read: “The first step in recovering Korea’s world status and overcoming this chaotic situation is to suspend President Yoon Suk-yeol from his duties.”
President Yoon declared martial law in a surprise broadcast late on the night of December 3. Following protests at the parliamentary building, members of the National Assembly voted to lift martial law despite attempts by the military to prevent them from entering the building.
“We must be prompt in removing the president from office, whether that be through impeachment or another method,” the statement continued. “Yoon Suk-yeol is no longer the president of those in the South Korean film industry. He is but a criminal who has committed treason.“
